National Compact Stellarator Experiment (NCSX)
Funding Agency: U.S Department of Energy, Princeton Plasma
Physics Laboratory. Energy Industries of Ohio
(EIO) is prime contractor on a project with DOE’s Princeton
Plasma Physics Laboratory for the design, development,
prototype building and construction of components in support
of the National Compact Stellerator Experiment. Stellerators
are a class of magnetic fusion confinement devices
characterized by three-dimensional magnetic fields and
plasma shapes and are the best-developed class of magnetic
fusion devices after the Tokamak. The initial prototype
device is valued at $550,000 and if successful it could be
the genesis of a $5+ million production contract.
